Gemma Whelan is an actress born on 23rd April 1981 in West Yorkshire, England. She is best known for portraying Kate in Bet Elton’s television sitcom “Upstart Crow”. Whelan began her career in 2006, playing the role of sister Grace in the short film “Madness of the Dance”. In 2010, she starred alongside Jack Black and Emily Blunt in the fantasy adventure comedy film “Gulliver’s Travels”.
In August 2011, she played Yara Greyjoy in the fantasy drama TV series “Game of Thrones” opposite Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster, and Lena Headey. She was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for her role in the series. In 2017, she landed the role of Karen Matthews in the Paul Whittington-directed drama television series “The Moorside” alongside Sheridan Smith and Sian Brooke.
