Gennady Golovkin was born on April 8, 1982. His birthplace is in Karaganda, Kazakhstan. He is known for his nickname GGG. He was known for being the holder of the unified middleweight titles of the world. However, he lost it to Canelo Alvarez in 2018.
He won a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics held in Greece, and he had a 345-5 amateur record. He also won a gold medal at the East Asian Games.
Golovkin started his career as a professional boxer in 2006 in the middleweight class. He won the vacant WBO Intercontinental middleweight title in 2009. The next year, he won the WBA WBA interim middleweight title. He bagged the vacant IBO middleweight title in 2011 and 2014 the WBC interim middleweight title. In 2012, he also debuted in HBO’s US channel. He won the WBC World Champion title in 2016.
