George Benson was born on March 22, 1943 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He signed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records in the 1970’s and began gaining a lot of attention. In 1976, he released the album Breezin’, which included the track The Masquerade. This would lead him to win a Grammy Award for Record of the Year.
Benson has gone on tour and performed all over the world within the past decade. He was invited to perform at the Singapore Sun Festival and he was also invited to play at the Java Jazz Festival in 2011. Director John Burk helped him produce his album Guitar Man shortly after the Java Jazz Festival. In 2013, Benson made an album in memory of Nat King Cole and he titled it Inspiration. This album included other upcoming artists such as Judith Hill and Idina Menzel. He continues to take part in festivals and makes other appearances, too.
