Gideon Bio

Gideon is an American heavy metal and metalcore band from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The band was formed in 2008 with vocalist Daniel McWhorther, drummer Jake Smelley, lead guitarist Tyler Riley and bassist Caleb Derusha. Band members of Gideon expounded on their traditional Christian upbringing and how creating metal music has allowed them to let go of religious expectations that strained their personal truth and creative direction. Thus, the 5 piece band used Gideon as their outlet, releasing their first independent project titled ‘Gideon EP’ in 2010. The band was then picked up by Facedown Records’ label division Strike First Records in 2011 to release their second album, ‘Milestone’ in 2012. They released another album with Facedown Records titled ‘Calloused’ which climbed to the number 4 spot on the U.S. Billboard 200. Gideon then moved on to Equal Vision Records in 2016, releasing another album titled ‘Cold’ in 2017 which rose to the number 5 spot on the Billboard 200. Gideon released their fifth album, ‘Out of Control’, on Equal Vision in 2019 which peaked at number 11 on the Billboard 200.
