Gilbert Burns is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist, born on July 20, 1986, in Niteroi in Rio de Janeiro. He competed in Jiu-Jitsu championships before switching to MMA. In the 2011 World Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship, he won the gold medal. Gilbert made his professional MMA debut in January 2012. He competed in the lightweight division until 2019 when he moved to the welterweight division for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). On November 7, 2015, he lost his first fight in his MMA career to Rashid Magomedov. Two years later, Gilbert signed a new, four-fight contract with UFC. In 2020, he faced Tyron Woodley, and the win earned him his fourth Performance of the Night award.
Gilbert is the older brother of UFC fighter Herbert Burns.
