Gilbert O’Sullivan is an Irish-English singer and songwriter born in Waterford, Ireland on December 1, 1946. He is best known for his hit songs “Get Down”, “Alone Again (Naturally)” and “Clair.” While in college he played the drums in a band named Rick’s Blues. He also played with the bands the Doodles and the Perfects while in college. In 1967 he was signed with the label CBS Records and released several singles. He was then signed with the label MAM Records and released his debut studio album in 1971 titled Himself. O’Sullivan has since released the albums Back to Front, Southpaw, Off Centre, Life & Rhymes, Nothing But The Best, Sounds of the Loop, Rare Tracks, Irlish, Piano Foreplay, Gilbertville, Gilbert O’Sullivan, and more. Throughout his career he released 19 studio albums, 15 compilation albums, and 3 EPs. O’Sullivan has had 16 top 40 records and 6 number one songs. In 1973 he was awarded the Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year.
