Godsmack is a heavy metal band from the east coast USA that has leaned toward an alternative metal sound. The band was founded by Sully Erna, who had already seen twenty-three years as a fill-in drummer for other bands. Erna is the frontman for Godsmack, together with Tony Rombola (guitar), Robbie Merrill (bass), Shannon Larkin (drums), after a few line-up shuffles.
While most metal bands have to content themselves with a cult following, at best, Godsmack has broken into mainstream recognition. Three back-to-back studio albums, “Faceless” (2003), “IV” (2006), and “The Oracle” (2010) were all #1 on the Billboard 200 Album chart. Their self-titled 1998 debut was certified 4x platinum, and their single releases have repeatedly hit #1 on the Billboard US Mainstream chart. They’ve also won a Billboard award for “Rock Artist of the Year,” eight Boston Music awards, and been nominated for four Grammy awards besides.
