Gorgui Sy Dieng was born on January 18, 1990. He is a Senegalese professional basketball player from Kébémer, Senegal. He plays the center position for the Minnesota Timberwolves of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He attended high school at Huntington Prep in West Virginia. He played his college basketball in Louisville, Kentucky. He was picked as the 21st overall by the Utah Jazz in the 2013 NBA draft. Gorgui Sy Dieng transferred to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He has won awards such as the NBA All-Rookie Second Team (2014), NCAA champion (2013) and Big East Defensive Player of the Year (2013).
