Coming from Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, Gorguts is a death metal rock band found in 1989. Members Luc Lemay, Sylvain Marcoux, Eric Giguere, and Stephane Provencher became known for their experimental musicality earning respect even from those outside of the metal community. They released their cassette demo entitled “And Then Comes Lividity” in 1990, earning a record deal with Roadrunner Records.
Their debut was launched in 1991 with “Considered Dead” having guitarist James Murphy and Chris Barnes featured in the album. In 1993, “The Erosion of Sanity” was released. However, death metal declined from popularity which led to their drop from the Roadrunner label. Returning to the scene after five years of silence, Gorguts signed with the Olympic Records in 1998 releasing “Obscura.”
