Grandmaster Flash is the stage name of the American hip hop artist and DJ Joseph Saddler. He was born in Bridgetown, Barbados on January 1, 1958. He is best known as the frontman of the hip hop group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. His love for music came from a young age. He became interested in DJing from his father’s extensive record collection. In 1978 he started the hip hop group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. They are considered to be one of the most influential hip hop acts of all time. The group released two studio albums and twelve compilation albums. In 2007 Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, making them the first hip hop group to be inducted. After the breakup of the group, Flash was signed with the label Elektra Records and in 1985 released the album They Said It Couldn’t Be Done. He has since released the albums The Source, Ba-Dop-Boom-Bang, Salsoul Jam 2000, Flash Is Back, The Official Adventures of Grandmaster Flash, Essential Mix: Classic Edition, and The Bridge – Concept of a Culture.
