Known by a handful of other monikers, singer, songwriter, and producer Curtis Jones was born on April 26, 1968, and frequently performs under the name Cajmere. After abandoning his pursuits at UC Berkeley, he moved back to his hometown of Chicago and released the track “Coffee Pot” in 1991. He was very much influenced by the house music movement that had made its way through Chicago in the 1980s, and under the name Cajmere, he released Underground Goodies EP in 1991. Later, under the name Green Velvet, he released “Velvet Tracks” in 1993, followed by the album Constant Chaos. After performing and releasing a handful of albums under the name Green Velvet, he returned to Cajmere with the 2013 album Too Underground For The Main Stage. In addition to his career as a DJ, he has also been known for his remix work, such as that of Madonna and Basement Jaxx.
