Greg Mathis is an American retired judge, arbiter, and reality television personality born in Detroit, Michigan on April 5, 1960. He is best known as the arbiter of the reality courtroom show Judge Mathis. He is the second longest serving television arbitrator ever, behind Judith Sheindlin of Judge Judy. Mathis graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a B.S. in Public Administration. In 1995 he was elected a district court judge for Michigan’s 36th District. Mathis served five years in that position. In 1999 he started filming the reality court show Judge Mathias that is still on to this day. The show has won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2018 and an NAACP Image Award in 2004. Mathis has written the books Street Judge and Of Being a Judge to Criminals and Such.
