Gunnar Nelson Bio
Gunnar Nelson is an Icelandic professional mixed martial artist, born on July 28, 1988, in Akureyri, Iceland. In his childhood years, he trained in several sports, including Goju-Ryu karate. He won the Icelandic Juvenile Kumite Championship title in 2003. Gunnar started fighting in a local Icelandic MMA club in Reykjavik in 2005. Since then, he has won many medals in Grappling and BJJ competitions. He got his BJJ black belt in 2009 under Renzo Gracie. He also trains with John Danaher, Karl Tanswell, and his trainer in Iceland, John Kavanagh. He signed for the Ultimate Fighting Championship in July 2012. In 2021, he got into a match with former World’s Strongest Man, Hafthor Bjornsson, who is best known as The Mountain from the popular HBO series Game of Thrones.
