Hall and Oates Bio
Temple University students Daryl Hall and John Oates formed their extremely famous music duo in 1970, and though they went through a string of unsuccessful albums in the beginning, they eventually met success when they moved to RCA Records and released the album Daryl Hall & John Oates. The album featured the single “Sara Smile”, which went to #4 in 1976. They then re-released their song “She’s Gone”, which was another Top 10 hit for the duo in late 1976. Throughout the 1970s, Hall & Oates would release the album Bigger Than Us, featuring the #1 hit “Rich Girl”; Beauty on a Back Street in 1977; Along the Red Ledge in 1978; and X-Static in 1979. After relocating to New York City, they changed their style and sound, releasing the album Voices in 1980, which featured the singles “How Does It Feel to Be Back”, a cover of the song “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’ “, and “You Make My Dreams”. 1981 saw their album Private Eyes with the track “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)”, and is thought of as one of their best albums.
Hall & Oates would dominate the 1980s with the Platinum-selling albums H2O in 1982, Big Bam Boom in 1984, and Ooh Yeah! in 1988, and they would go on to release five more albums from 1990 to 2006. In 2011, the duo was honored at the TV Land Awards as recipients of the Music Icon Award.
