Tom Krell, an ethereal R&B composer and producer, went by the stage name How to Dress Well. He was born on October 10th, 1984 in Boulder, Colorado. A tremendously productive series of free, digital EPs that Krell anonymously uploaded on his blog in 2009, marked the beginning of his budding career. The Eternal Love, the first How to Dress Well EP, was made available for free download on his site in 2009, and further EPs were published throughout 2010. Ready for the World, Krell's first official song from Lefse Records, was released in 2010. His critically lauded first album, Love Remains, which assembled songs from Krell's EPs, was released soon after. In 2011, he released the limited-edition, Just Once EP, a collection of songs commemorating one of his friends who had passed away. Krell eventually recorded Total Loss in 2012; it was co-produced by Rodaidh McDonald and Forest Swords and was inspired by the idea of attempting to remain optimistic in the midst of hardship.
