Howard Jones Bio

Howard Jones is a British musician, singer and songwriter. He was born John Howard Jones on the 23rd of February, 1955, in Southampton, Hampshire, England. He began training in classical piano at age 7 and during his teenage years, and during his teenage years, he formed a progessive rock band. He graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music, based in Manchester, while he played in several bands, before starting his solo career. He began playing at local venues and he invited Jed Hoile, a mime artist, to perform alongside him when he played. The act was a success and Jones signed to Warner Music Group in 1983. He released his debut single “New Song” a few months later and it became a hit, reaching number 5 of the UK Singles chart. It was the first of a long series, as Jones would release over 40 hit singles during his career, including “Things Can Only Get Better” and “What Is Love?”. He has released over 12 albums including “Transform” in 2019. Jones is considered a pioneer of the mid-‘80s synth-pop genre.
