Hugh Christopher Edmund Fearnley-Whittingstall, popularly known as Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, is an English chef, author, TV personality, producer, journalist, and campaigner on food and environmental issues. He is the son of author and broadcaster Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall.
Hugh was born on January 14, 1965 in London, England, UK. He is best known for hosting the River Cottage series on the UK television channel Channel 4. After a temporary relocation to Africa, Hugh returned to England and became a sous-chef at the River Café in London. In 1997, Hugh moved into River Cottage, which became the setting for three Channel 4 series: Escape to River Cottage, Return to River Cottage and River Cottage Forever, hosted by Fearnley-Whittingstall and directed by Garry John Hughes.
Hugh also appeared in multiple episodes of other TV shows including A Cook on the Wild Side, Time Team, Treats from the Edwardian Country House, Countdown, The Big Food Fight, and The One Show. He is the author of River Cottage Much More Veg, Hugh's Three Good Things, Eat Better Forever, River Cottage Veg Every Day, and Hugh Fearlessly Eats It All.
