Humberto Leon Bio

Humberto Leon is a fashion designer born on 7th June 1975 in Los Angeles, California. He is widely recognized for his close working relationship with American fashion designer Carol Lim. Together with Liam, they founded the fashion brand Opening Ceremony in 2002. They opened more stores in Los Angeles, New York, and Tokyo. When he was 15 years old, he went on a trip to Hong Kong with Lim. When they returned to the United States, they opened a store in the United States.

The idea was to introduce brands like Topshop and Havaianas in the United States and feature products from emerging companies like Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, and Alexander Wang. They chose Opening Ceremony as their brand name. They sourced funds and contributed their own money to start the brand. In 2011, Leon was appointed the co-co-creative director of Kenzo's parent company LVMH. The following year, Lim and Leon released their debut collection, which Ellsworth Kelly inspired. Leon left his role at Kenzo in 2019 to focus on their new brand.
