Intense, a producer of Punjabi music also known as Aneil Kainth, was reared in Surrey, British Columbia. He was raised in a musical household and initially became well-known in his community as a teenager in the middle of the 2000s when he began to produce hip-hop beats, DJ at nearby weddings, and share his Desi pop remixes with pals. The 2014 regional hit "Launian Pehndian," a joint effort with vocalist Jup Gill that blends layered bhangra percussion with a filthy guitar riff and massive synth bass, served him his major break. Intense has since collaborated with Indian superstars like AP Dhillon and Diljit Dosanjh in an effort to appeal to audiences in both India and the diaspora. The duo uses understated beats, ethereal synth hooks, and 808 flourishes to highlight the vocal performances on hits like "Toxic" from 2020 and "Umbrella" from 2021. With hit-making sounds that combine Indian and North American music in ways that are both deceptively basic and addictively catchy, Intense has amassed millions of streams online.
