IshDARR, born Ishmael Ali on August 28, 1996 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin started rapping as a freshman in high school. Joining together with his older brother and then friend, and now current manager, Mag, along with Wave Chappelle, they started a group known as NoNam3. Influenced by his father’s jazz and rap music, including the likes of Lil Wayne, A Tribe Called Quest, and De La Soul, IshDARR continued to rap after his brother and friends went on to graduate.
In January of 2014 IshDARR dropped his first solo EP, The Better Life, on SoundCloud. The lead single “POPS” featured Rina and quickly went viral, gathering the attention of The Source and Atlantic Records. Working with producers Arthur McArthur and J. Gramm, he released his debut album Old Soul Young Spirit in 2015. The single “Too Bad” gained significant traction on March 2, 2015 when a tweet by actress Chloe Grace Moretz, of Kick-Ass fame, spurred the single on to 255, 000 plus streams on SoundCloud and a top 10 ranking on Hype Machine. IshDARR’s second album, Broken Hearts & Bankrolls, released a year later to critical acclaim.
