J Balvin Bio

José Álvaro Osorio Balvin, known simply as J Balvin, was born in Medellín, Colombia on May 7, 1985. The music of Colombia highly influenced him to become involved in the industry in the area of reggaeton, and by 2009, J Balvin had a contract with EMI Colombia. His first single entitled “Ella Me Cautivó” peaked at #35 on the U.S. Tropical chart and #16 on the Colombian charts. In 2010, J Balvin released his debut album Real.

After the success of the Robin Thicke song “Blurred Lines”, J Balvin decided to get involved in the Colombian remake of the single, and was one of the featured vocalists. Shortly after, he released his second album La Familia in 2013. La Familia peaked at #1 on the Colombian charts, #2 on the U.S. Latin Rhythm chart, and #14 on the U.S. Latin chart. The well-known single from the album “Yo Te Lo Dije” spiked to #9 on the U.S. Latin Pop chart.
