Julio Daniel Martinez (born August 21, 1987, in Miami, Florida), is an American professional baseball outfielder and designated hitter for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the Houston Astros, Detroit Tigers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Boston Red Sox. He made his MLB debut in 2011.
Martinez attended Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, Florida, where he played baseball and was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 36th round of the 2006 MLB draft. The Houston Astros selected Martinez in the 20th round of the 2009 MLB draft. Martinez signed a minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers on March 24, 2014. He had a breakout season with the Tigers in 2014, with 23 home runs and 76 RBIs in 123 games. He was named the American League (AL) Player of the Week twice that season.
He also won his first Silver Slugger Award as the best offensive outfielder in the AL. He played for the Tigers from 2014 to 2017, mainly as a right fielder. He was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 18, 2017. Julio has played alongside Trevor Story, Enrique Hernandez, Jackie Bradley Jr., and Bobby Dalbec.
