J. Holiday, born Nahom Thorton Grymes (November 29, 1984), is an American singer, songwriter and rapper. Born and based in Washington, D.C., the R&B vocalist began his career with Capitol Records, releasing a single titled ‘Be With Me’ in 2006. After the release of this single, he spent the year working on his debut album, ‘Back of My Lac’’ which was released in 2007. The album proceeded to be a success with hits such as ‘Bed’, J Holiday’s most renowned song and ‘Suffocate’ which was number 70 on Rolling Stone’s 100 Best songs of 2007. The R&B artist who made the album was certified as gold. chart with ‘Bed’ and ‘Be With Me’ hitting number on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Charts. In 2008, he received a number of nominations; American Music Award for Favourite Soul/R&B Male Artist, BET Awards for Best Male R&B Artists, NAACP Image Award for Outstanding New Artist. This was followed by a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album for ‘Back of My Lac’. J. Holiday followed the success with his second album, ‘Round 2’ in 2010 debuting at number 4 on the US Billboard 200. In 2010, J. Holiday moved from Capitol to Def Jam while his third studio album was being written. Although, in 2012, J. Holiday left Def Jam and began to release music independently. It was not until 2014 that J. Holiday released in 2014 titled ‘Conscience’ through his own label Holiday Music Group, landing at number 42 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Album chart. J. Holiday, now at 36 years old, has recently gone on tour in 2019 and still performs live. His single ‘Bed’ currently has 83 million plays on Spotify and has 1 million monthly listeners.
