Earl Joseph Smith III, better known as J. R. Smith, is an American professional basketball player who played as a shooting guard in the NBA. He was born in Freehold Borough, New Jersey, United States, on September 9, 1985. J. R. spent his formative years playing for Lakewood High School and St. Benedict’s Preparatory School, and he turned professional in 2004 when he was selected by the New Orleans Hornets in the first round of the NBA Draft. He went on to represent the Denver Nuggets, Zhejiang Golden Bulls, New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Los Angeles Lakers. Throughout his time with the Cavaliers, J. R. won the NBA Championship playing alongside LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, and Tristan Thompson.
