J.S. Ondara is a Kenya-born singer and songwriter. Born in August 1992 in Nairobi, the singer is well known for his Americana folk style music. In 2013, the singer moved to Minnesota, USA to pursue a career in music. He chose to move to Minnesota because it is his idol, Bob Dylan’s home state. Even though English isn’t his first language, Ondara tried desperately to make it in the industry as an English Americana folk singer. Ondara’s song Lebanon was written for his application to be a part of the Tiny Desk Contest. But his application was unsuccessful back in 2013. He took the road less traveled, made a full record, and stalked the creative director of the Tiny Desk Contest to be noticed. His hard work paid off and Ondara became extremely famous in 2019, with his first album titled Tales of America. It did so well that it was nominated at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards for Best Americana Album in 2020.
