Jack Hoffman is an American reality television personality born in Portland, Oregon in 1947. He is best known for being a cast member of the reality television show Gold Rush and the father of Todd Hoffman. At 18 years old Hoffman was drafted into the United States military during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany. Jack eventually ended up in Alaska mining gold and came close to losing everything. In 2010 he decided to get back into mining to be able to share the experience with his son Todd and moved to Alaska. That same year they became cast members of the Discovery TV gold mining show Gold Rush. At the Hoffman mine, Jack runs the 400 Excavator and works in the gold room. In 2014 he made his directorial debut with the film Asthma starring Benedict Samuel and Krysten Ritter.
