Jack Johnson is an American singer/songwriter born on May 18, 1975 in North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii. His father is professional surfer Jeff Johnson, so Jack’s first passion was surfing. When he was sidelined by a serious surfing injury as a teenager, he began to focus all of his energy on music. He began playing guitar at the age of 8 and started songwriting at 12, but became serious about pursuing a music career when he played in the band Soil in college. He is heavily influenced by Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Neil Young, Sublime, and Jimi Hendrix, who he considers his favorite musician of all time.
His debut album, Brushfire Fairytales, was released in 2001 and featured fellow musician Ben Harper. Two years later Johnson released his second album, On and On. It was the first album to be released through The Moonshine Conspiracy Records, Johnson’s personal record label.
Johnson’s next three albums, 2005’s In Between Dreams, 2006’s Sing-Alongs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George, and 2008’s Sleep Through the Static garnered him mainstream commercial success. In Between Dreams features two of his most famous songs, “Better Together” and “Banana Pancakes”. His Curious George soundtrack was the second soundtrack for an animated film in history to reach #1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
In 2010, Johnson released his fifth studio album To the Sea featuring the single “You and Your Heart”. 2013 saw the release of From Here to Now to You, his sixth studio album. He embarked on a 7-month tour to promote this album.
