Jaga Jazzist is a jazz band from Norway consisting of brothers Lars and Martin Horntveth. They have had many other band mates throughout the years, but none of them have been permanent members. The band gained its fame when BBC named their album A Livingroom Hush the Best Jazz Album in 2002. They feature all kinds of different instruments in their works, even vibraphones and tubas.
Their music has been recognized as some of the most unique sounds ever, in part due to their 1996 album Jævla Jazzist Grete Stitz. This album, along with their EP Magazine from 1998, gained them a lot of popularity due to their incorporation of other genres such as rap, which is usually not mixed with jazz music. The band signed with Warner Music in Norway. They continue to make music and slowly release albums and EPs, including their album Starfire in 2015.
