Jake Shimabukuro is a prominent ukulele instrumentalist born November 3, 1976, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is of Japanese and American descent. Jake Shimabukuro became known in Hawaii and Japan where the ukulele is a household instrument, for his speedy fingerwork and fusionist approach. His work with the band Pure Heart gained praise in Hawaii - their first album (1994) gained 4 Honu Awards and became one of the "Top 50 Hawaiian Albums of all time" on Honolulu Magazine’s top list. After one of his videos went viral on YouTube, back in 2006, Jake became famous worldwide. The now-famous video of Jake Shimabukuro playing “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” by The Beatles was one of the first viral videos on YouTube. After his breakout, he's released more than a dozen solo albums, such as Sunday Morning (2002), Dragon (2005), Gently Weeps (an album that was released in 2006 in the United States and got a second place on the Top World Music Albums by Billboard), Peace Love Ukulele (2011), or The Greatest Day (2018). He has also taken part in multiple collaborations with prominent musicians such as Ziggy Marley and Jimmy Buffett.
