James Gunn was born on August 5, 1966 in St. Louis Missouri. He got his start in a band called The Icons in 1989 in which he was the lead vocalist. They released one album that had songs featured in the film Tromeo and Juliet. His first film was Tromeo and Juliet (1995). He continued to make music for films like the Scooby-Doo Franchise.
He later wrote the remake of Dawn of the Dead, and became the first screenwriter to have two consecutive weeks with top box office films. He was a judge on the television show Scream Queens in 2008. He began to write and direct a comedy called Pets in 2009 but later announced that he was leaving the project for “various reasons” and was not releasing it. He was a co-writer and director of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).
