Jamie N. Commons was born in Bristol, England, on October 22, 1988. When he was a young child, his family moved to Chicago, Illinois, where his love of blues and folk music would eventually be cultivated. His father took him to an Allman Brothers concert when he was a little older, fueling in him the desire to create music just like them. Though the family moved back to England when he was 16, he took with him an unforgettable love for the American genres. Jamie N. Commons released his debut blues EP in 2011, entitled The Baron. The first song on the EP, “The Preacher”, sets the scene for the rest of the album, as a lot of what he speaks about in his tracks touches on religion.
Jamie N. Commons went on to release his second EP, Rumble and Sway, in 2013 under Interscope. After gaining much recognition for the gripping, bluesy, religion-tinted melodies, Jamie N. Commons received the opportunity to open for Bruce Springsteen in Holland in June 2013. In 2014, he released a song with rock group X Ambassadors entitled “Jungle”, which was featured in the Netflix trailer for the series Orange is the New Black.
