Jason Mantzoukas is an American comedy actor, producer, writer, and podcaster, born December 18, 1972, in Nahant, Massachusetts. Mantzoukas is most widely known for his portraying Rafi in the FX comedy series, The League, where he wrote and/or acted in 30 episodes. Mantzoukas began as an improv comedian. His first serious engagement was at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York, where he performed comedy acts on a nightly basis. His mentor at the time (1998) was a celebrated comedy star, Amy Poehler. His breakthrough came in 2006 when his and Ed Herbstman's improv act The Mantzoukas Brothers earned them the label of Best Improv Duo by Time Out New York magazine. Since his breakthrough, the actor has performed in a number of notable TV roles, many of which are "mockumentaries" like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Good Place, Modern Family, and Parks and Recreation. His movie roles are also well-known, as Mantzoukas appeared in hits like The Dictator (2012), The Lego Batman Movie (2017), as the voice of the Scarecrow, as well as Ride Along (2014), alongside Ice Cube and Kevin Hart.
