Jason Mewes was born on June 12, 1974 in Highlands, New Jersey. Though he never set out to carve a career as an actor, his life was altered when he met his future filmmaking partner Kevin Smith. The two would go on to star in Clerks (1994) and it was his role as Jay that would see him achieve cult indie status and set the tone for the rest of his career.
The majority of his career has been spent playing the same role as one half of Jay and Silent Bob. He has played this role in Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) and Clerks II (2006). Although he is best known for this role, he has starred in more than 30 films in his career and has continued to work on several independent projects with his on screen partner. In 2007, he was rewarded with an MTV award for Dirtiest Mouth and there are still rumors of a Clerks III in the pipeline.
