Jay Electronica, born Timothy Elpadaro Thedford, is a rapper from New Orleans, Louisiana, who first broke through releasing music online. In 2007, he released Act I: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge) through his MySpace page. The short mixtape, built on Jon Brion’s score for the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, prompted the slow and steady acceleration of his career. By early the next year he was the feature of a ninety minute exposé on Giles Peterson’s BBC Radio 1 show Worldwide. After year of relative silence, with no new music released, and a few old tracks resurfacing, he released his first official single “Exhibit A” in the summer of 2009. He released his second single, “Exhibit C,” by the end of the year. In summer of 2016, he announced that his debut studio album, Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn), would finally be released after four years of delays. He is currently signed to Roc Nation.
