Jeff Nichols is an American film director and screenwriter, born in Little Rock, Arkansas on December 7, 1978. Nichols studied filmmaking at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. In 2007 he wrote, directed, and produced his first film titled Shotgun Stories. He shot the film with a $250,000 budget. He has since been part of the films, Take Shelter, Mud, Hellion, Midnight Special, Loving, In The Radiant City, and the Alien Nation remake. All of the films he has directed have featured the actor Michael Shannon in a leading or supporting role. Nichols was the President of the Jury for the 7th Rome Film Festival in 2012. In 2018 he directed the short film Long Way Back Home and the music video “Innocents” by Lucero.
