Jemele Hill is an American sports journalist born in Detroit, Michigan on December 21, 1975. Hill currently writes for The Atlantic. She started her career as a sports writer for the Raleigh News & Observer. From 1999 to 2005 she was a sports writer for the Detroit Free Press. From 2005 to 2006 she worked as a columnist for the Orlando Sentinel. In 2006 she started working as a national columnist for ESPN. She made regular television appearances on the shows SportsCenter, ESPN First Take, Outside the Lines, and The Sports Reporters. Hill was awarded the McKenzie Cup in 2007. In 2011 she started a podcast with Michael Smith called His & Hers. Hill worked at ESPN for 12 years until leaving in 2018. In 2018 Hill started working as a staff writer for the magazine The Atlantic. That same year she was named Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists.
