Jerry Seinfeld Bio

Jerome Allen Seinfeld, AKA Jerry Seinfeld, was born on April 29, 1954 in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated with a degree in communications and theater from the City University of New York (CUNY). While he was in school, he became intrigued with standup comedy, and after graduation he auditioned at an open-mic night in which he did really well and landed a guest appearance in an HBO special.

In and around 1981, Seinfeld appeared numerous times on several nighttime shows including The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson and the equally popular Late Night with David Letterman. He met fellow “funny man” Larry David and together they created the renowned NBC sitcom Seinfeld in 1988, which ended up running for ten years. Meanwhile, Seinfeld also joined Saturday Night Live with other now-veteran SNL stars such as Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jason Alexander.

When Seinfeld was finally over, Seinfeld decided to focus on standup comedy and he went on tour in 1998. During this tour, he performed in hundreds of places around the world and made his experiences into a documentary called Comedian (2002). He created Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, which was a silly web series that ended up getting him a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award in 2012. In the Fall of 2017, he teamed up with Netflix, which provided the platform for Seinfeld’s new standup comedy show, Jerry Before Seinfeld.

Seinfeld’s awards list is extensive. He has won and/or been nominated for several Golden Globes Awards, Primetime Emmy Awards, People’s Choice Awards, Screen Actors Guild Award, Viewers for Quality Television Awards, and many more.
