Jesca Hoop, born Jessica Ada Hoop, is an American indie-folk singer, songwriter, and guitarist who was born on April 21, 1975, in Santa Rosa, California. Her career began in the early 2000s when she became a nanny working for the famous singer and songwriter Tom Waits. After five years serving the family, Tom Waits discovered her music and Jesca ended up signing a contract with the Columbia Records offshoot 3 Entertainment. Her first album titled Kismet was released in 2007 and surprisingly made it into both the Billboard independent and Heatseekers album charts. In 2008 she released her first EP called Kismet Acoustic, after which she signed with Vanguard Records and published the album Hunting My Dress in 2010. After other albums and Eps, she collaborated with Sam Beam in the song “Love Letter for Fire” in 2016, and the following year she released the album Memories are Now, which became part of the Top 20 Heatseekers Album chart.
