Jessy Lanza is a vocalist, DJ and producer hailing from Hamilton, Canada and is currently based in Queens, New York. Before starting her professional music career, Jessy studied jazz at Concordia University and was a music teacher in Ontario. She released her debut electronic R&B album, ‘Pull My Hair Back’ in 2013 through London label Hyperdub, which was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize in 2014. According to Metacritic, the album has an 8.7/10 for universal acclaim. In the same year, she worked with Caribou on his album, Our Love. It was only in 2016 that Jessy released her follow up album, ‘Oh No’ containing one of her most popular hits, ‘It Means I Love You’, currently with 1.9 million plays on Spotify. ‘Oh No’ was also shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize in 2016. The album receieved high reviews from critics, rated by All Music as a 4.5/5, 9/10 by Exclaim and was listed on Gorilla vs. Bear’s Albums of the Year 2016 placing at number 2. Jessy has toured in North America, Australia, Asia and Europe and just recently released a new single, ‘Lick in Heaven’ in February 2020.
