Jo Ellen Pellman is a singer born in 1994 in Ohio, United States. She is widely recognized for playing Emma Nolan in the musical comedy film “The Prom” in 2020. While in school, she was in ballet and often went to theater camp. In 2018, she made brief appearances in the sketch comedy TV series “Alternatino”, HBO drama series “The Deuce”, and the fifth episode of season three of comedy-drama streaming series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”.
She was cast into “The Prom” by Ryan Murphy, who said he was touched by her speech about being a queer woman and being raised by a gay single mother. It was her first appearance in a film. In December 2020, she and Ariana DeBose, who had also starred in The Prom, started the Unruly Hearts Initiative to help young people reach out and connect with organizations that support LGBTQ+.
