Joe Robert Cole is an American film director, screenwriter, film editor, actor, and television writer and producer born in San Francisco, California on January 1, 1980. He is best known for his work on the first season of the true crime show American Crime Story, titled The People v. O.J. Simpson, and for co-writing the film Black Panther. While in college, Cole worked as a writer on the film ATL in 2006. In 2011 he made his writing and directing debut with the feature film Amber Lake. Cole has since been part of the films White Dwarf, Black Panther, and Day and a Night. In 2016 he was a writer and producer for the show The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. Throughout his career he has been nominated for several awards and has won a Black Reel Award, a Writers Guild of America Award, a Nevada Film Critics Society Award, and a Georgia Film Critics Association Award.
