Joel Marsh Garland is an actor and director born on April 6, 1975, in Rome, New York, USA. He earned a degree in acting from Bennington College (VT) in 1997. Joel is the lead singer for the band The Atomic Grind Show. He has appeared in several film, television, and theatrical productions.
Joel is best known for his role as corrections officer Scott O'Neill in the Emmy award-winning Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. The series earned him the 2014 and 2015 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Cast in a Comedy Series. He starred in several acclaimed films such as Birdman (2014), The Bounty Hunter (2010), and The Believer (2001).
Joel voiced the Sasquatch Roleplayer in Grand Theft Auto V and the real Sasquatch in Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare. He made his Broadway debut in a revival of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men in 2014. He was in several TV series, including Chicago Fire, Elementary, Boardwalk Empire, Law and Order, and Louie.
