Joel McHale is an American comedian, actor, writer, producer, and television host born in Rome, Italy on November 20, 1971. He is known for hosting the show The Soup, and for his role on the television show Community. He was a member of the improv comedy group Unexpected Productions from 1993 to 1997. He earned a Masters degree in acting from the University of Washington. He moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue an acting career. In 1996 he made his debut on television in the show Almost Live! and continued landing roles in the shows The Huntress, The Fugitive, CSI: Miami, Pushing Daisies, Sons of Anarchy, Community, Regular Show, The X-Files, The Great Indoors, Stargirl and others. McHale has been a host of the shows The Soup, 26th Independent Spirit Awards, 2013 VGX Awards, White House Correspondents Dinner, 2015 ESPY Awards, The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale, and Card Sharks. In 2004 he made his debut in film in the movie Spider-Man 2 and has since had roles in the films Mini’s First Time, The Informant!, What’s Your Number, Ted, Blended, Adult Beginners, Assassination Nation, Happily, Dark Harbor, Deliver Us From Evil and more. Throughout his career he has been nominated for a number of awards and has won two EWwy Awards, a TV Guide Award, and a PAAFTJ Television Award.
