Josiah Alexander Sila was born on June 25, 2003 in Denpasar, Bali Indonesia. At age 10, jazz guru Wynton Marsalis noticed him in a YouTube video, and he asked Alexander if he wanted to meet. Alexander gladly accepted and visited the United States, where he gained praise for his performance of Round Midnight. He was even featured in the New York Times for this performance.
Alexander was the runner-up for the Grammy Awards Best Jazz Instrumental Album as well as Best Improvised Jazz Solo in 2016. He was even asked to present at the Premiere Ceremony, which takes place prior to the actual Grammy Awards show. He released his second album titled Countdown, in 2016, which also featured some fellow musicians such as saxophonist Chris Potter. Alexander was also invited to perform at the 2017 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
