John Newman Bio
Singer/songwriter John Newman was born on June 16, 1990, in North Yorkshire, England, and by the age of 14, he had learned how to play guitar and began writing his own songs. He moved to Leeds when he was 16, yet a traumatic event led to him exploring music deeply, which was the death of his two best friends in a car crash. The incident inspired him to write lyrics, and after starting a band with other music enthusiasts, he was signed to Island Records at the age of 20. John Newman’s breakthrough, however, came in 2012 when he appeared on the single “Feel the Love” by Rudimental, which went double platinum in Australia. The next year, he debuted with his own single “Love Me Again”, which preceded his first album Tribute in late 2013. Shortly after its release, the album went to #1 on the UK Albums Chart, and provided the catalyst for many of his performances and appearances. In 2014, John Newman was honored at the Brit Awards when he was nominated for British Single of the Year as well as British Male Solo Artist.
