John Powell is an English composer born in London, England on September 18, 1963. He is best known for his scores to motion pictures and has composed the scores for over fifty films. He was a member of Hans Zimmer’s music studio, Remote Control Productions. After college, he composed music for television commercials and landed a job as an assistant to the film composer Patrick Doyle. In 1995 he co-founded the commercial music house Independently Thinking Music, which has composed scores for over 100 British and French commercials and independent films. In 1990 he composed his first film score for Stay Lucky. In 1997 he moved to Los Angeles, California and composed the music for his first major film, Face/Off. He has since composed the music for the films Antz, Endurance, Forces of Nature, Chill Factor, Shrek, Evolution, Rat Race, I Am Sam, Gigli, Paycheck, Robots, United 93, Happy Feet, The Bourne Ultimatum, Hancock, Bolt, Fair Game, Rio, Pan, Jason Bourne, Ferdinand, Call of the Wind and more. Throughout his career he has been nominated for numerous awards and has won nine ASCAP Award, three Annie Awards, and four IFMCA Awards.
