John Prine Bio

Grammy Award-winning artist John Prine was a critically-acclaimed singer and songwriter from Illinois. Born on 10 October 1946, the star was meant for greatness and began playing the guitar and writing songs at 14. Prine started making inroads into the Chicago folk music circuit in the 1960s, and by 1971, he published his first album. His country music fused in folk didn’t gain commercial traction until 1984, but he did win the critics over and received a nomination for a Grammy award for New Artist of the Year. John’s career thrived, and his songs got recorded by giants in the industry, including Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, Dwight Yoakam, George Strait, and Bette Midler. He was nominated 11 times for the Grammy award and won it twice. Billboard’s Country Album chart featured his recent album releases in 2016 and 2018. The legendary composer passed away on 7 April 2020.
