American television actor John Wesley Shipp was born on January 22, 1955 in Norfolk, Virginia. After college, he settled in New York City to pursue acting studies, where he landed his first daytime role as Dr. Kelly Nelson on Guiding Light. In The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter from 1990, he eventually played Bastian's Father. He gained notoriety for playing Barry Allen, a.k.a. The Flash, on the CBS television programme The Flash from 1990 to 1991. From 1980 to 1984, he also appeared as Kelly Nelson on the soap opera Guiding Light. He appeared in a 2014 episode of Grant Gustin's CW series The Flash as Barry Allen's father. In the drama series Dawson's Creek from 1998 to 2001, he also portrayed Mitch Leery.
