Jolie Holland is an American folk and traditional music artist who was born on May 17, 1976, in Houston, Texas. She started performing as a teenager and was based in San Francisco. In the mid-1990s she decided to move to Vancouver where she was a member of the folk band The Be Good Tanyas alongside Frazey Ford, Samantha Parton, and Trish Klein with whom she released the EP titled The Tanyas’ Blue Horse in 2001. She then returned to San Francisco where she started to produce her own demo records which became quite popular. Because of this, she ended up signing with the record producer Anti-. She released her first recording in 2003 and was titled Catalpa. The following year she finally made her official debut with the full-length album Escondida which was very successful, as well as the subsequent album Springtime Can Kill You released in 2006. Since then, she continued to release new music as both a solo artist and collaborating with other artists and former band members.
