Jonathan Coulton also was known as JoCo was born on December 1, 1970, in Brooklyn, New York. While working as a software engineer, he released CDs on his own such as Smoking Monkey in 2003 and Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow, an EP, in 2004.
He started a project called Thing a Week where he released one track a week and posted them on his website. He allowed people to listen for free but he also sold CDs and MP3s. Some of his songs like “Re: Your Brains,” “Baby Got Back,” and “Skullcrusher Mountain” became internet hits.
The song he wrote for the computer game Portal, “Still Alive,” won the Song of the year award from Game Audio Network. He released his debut album Artificial Heart in 2010 and it landed on No. 125 of the Billboard Top 200.
